Lost Riffs in Atlantis

Ghosts of Atlantis, UK band debuting on the metal scene with their album 3/6/2/4 (2021) with the increasingly important and growing label Black Lion Records.

With a style that has some elements of symphonic metal based on death metal, this LP is majestic full of fury, poetry, history and mysteries about a lost civilization through a sea of riffs that lead us to travel with one of the best albums of the epics of 2021.

With a lineup of musicians with experience in previous projects, who have managed the concept of this project and are responsible for this epic journey, we have: Phil Primmer, lead vocals; Colin Parks, guitar and clean voice; Dex Jezierski, guitar; Al Todd, Bass; and Rob Garner, drums.

3/6/2/4, is an understandable album, with symphonic moments, aggressive riffs, guttural and clean voices that tell the story as if it were poetry or a story, so the lyrical aspect is very important; There are quite a few moments that evoke melodic Death metal, so this is its compositional base which is adorned by instrumental elements that function as bridges or interludes, to join segments of the songs, which give freshness and dynamism.

With a total of eight tracks and 40 minutes in length, it is a delight and wonder to listen, all that symphonic mixture, combined with riffs and fast drums; While the powerful waves of the seas take you to the mysterious civilization of Atlantis.

Tracklist
1. The Third Pillar
2. Halls of Lemuria

3. False Prophet
Piano notes lost in the deep ocean are the beginning of this incredible song. Powerful riffs accompanied by strings effects and soprano vocals in the background, are the gateway to the first verse guided by a blast beat and an aggressive throaty voice using 4/4 as a time signature. The appearance of the clean voice allows a surprising rhythmic change that is short that gives entry to the aggressive voice that ends its verse and the guitar presents a short solo. The use of soprano voices and keyboard effects trap us in an epic atmosphere.
Suddenly in the middle of the song we have a quiet passage accompanied by long notes on the guitar and the clean voice, which tells the event. There is no doubt that the symphonic elements generate an incredible atmosphere within this track, whose ending is calm and peaceful.

4. The Curse of Man
5. When Tridents Fail
Start to soft synth effects, while a supreme voice does not incite to give the key of how to defeat a God, incredible epic opening for one of the most surprising songs on the album. Fast riffs and guttural voice, accompanied by effects on keyboards and a bass with a great presence, that give a moment of aggressiveness and heroism, but at the same time of a powerful and symphonic death metal. The change of rhythm resemble a gallop with two riders or two voices; notes in strings effect maybe in the 5th octave play with leisurely riffs and short verses that function as a breather.
The participation of the clean voice is majestic, as they give understanding to the lyrics, which tell us about this situation of the trident fault. We could summarize this track as a balance between the leading role of the voices, fast riffs and symphonic moments that enter and create a perfect atmosphere, however there is no guitar solo to give more points to the song.

6. Poseidon’s Bow
Fast riffs are the entrance of this song, which tells us an episode in history without corruption, with dreams and knowledge before the fury of a God ended everything. It is a short song, again with the appearance of clean and guttural voices, both to carry the verses and the chorus.
The guitar solo is simple, it is not full of virtuosity, but it is well adorned by voices on the keyboard that give it depth and prominence, only for a few seconds since it is short. Well at this point in our trip to Atlantis we know that the strong aspect of this song is its symphonic composition, riffs and voices.

7. Gardens of Athena
8. The Lost Compass

Conclusión

3/6/2/4 is a wonderful, catapulted debut by a record label, which has been doing a great job.

The presence of all the elements of death metal is enhanced by the symphonic compositions that really create an epic atmosphere and take you to a mythological moment; the production of the album is excellent, the volume of all the instruments is ideal, because in each track it is easy to identify them. When it is necessary to incorporate fast riffsGhosts of Atlantis do it, the symphony is only there if the song warrants it, and the clean vocals only if necessary, that is, there is a balance in everything.

However, in some moments the songs awaken you so much euphoria, which is adorned by the musical aspects, that when you think that an epic moment is about to be reached it does not happen, because the clean voices appear once more, perhaps the incorporation of interludes or more frequent melodic and symphonic bridges would get that explosion in the songs.

If you are a lover of death metal and symphonic metal, this is an album for you, and if you are not, it is also, because the quality and the composition are worth mentioning, there is no doubt that we are facing one of the best LPs of this year.
